Truman Capote Prize

In Light of All Darkness has been awarded the Truman Capote Prize for Distinguished Work in Literary Non-Fiction or the Short Story.

Literary critic Don Noble compared the book to Capote’s groundbreaking non-fiction style. “Although this is not a novel, the facts in this meticulous true crime report are as enthralling as they were in Capote’s In Cold Blood, carrying the reader along and showing the emotional effects of the kidnapping and the investigation on everyone involved: family, friends, police.”

The award be presented on Friday afternoon, March 1, in Monroeville, Alabama, where Harper Lee and Truman Capote became childhood friends.

I’m excited to celebrate with my friend Tom Franklin, author of Hell at the Breech and Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, as he is honored with the Harper Lee Award. We get to carouse (along with his wife and award-winning writer Beth Ann Fennelly) at a Southern-themed reception/supper in Monroeville. Tickets for the reception can be purchased by calling 251-575-7433.
