Spring 2022: Teaching Feature Writing at Harvard Extension School

Next spring, I’ll be teaching at Harvard Extension School, a degree-granting institution at Harvard University dedicated to rigorous online education. My Feature Writing course, which begins January 26, 2022, will meet online on Wednesdays from 5:10 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The class has a limited enrollment of 18 students.

My semester-long curriculum is designed for those who already possess a strong command of the fundamentals of writing, who wish to elevate their narrative nonfiction reporting and storytelling skills. There will be weekly writing assignments, but the objective of the course is to report, write, and revise two feature stories worthy of publication. One will be a reported first-person essay or narrative; the second will be a third-person story with a central character (other than the writer) and a clear narrative arc.

Prerequisites: An introductory journalism course, some journalism experience, or permission of the instructor.

Registration: Begins November 8, 2021 and ends January 20, 2022.

How to register: Visit this page for enrollment information. My course number is CRN 26013 | Section 1.
